The two triply essential fatty acids may reverse ageing

The Peskin Hypothesis predicts that taking a daily dietary supplement of 2,900 milligrams of a pristine, vibrant linoleic acid (LA)/ pristine, vibrant alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) mix with an LA/ALA ~2:1 ratio should restore the elasticity of artery walls …
Brian Peskin and interventional cardiologist David Sim conducted two prospective studies to test this prediction.

The long-term prospective study

Thirty-four subjects were recruited across four years – twelve females and 22 males. The elasticity of their artery walls was assessed. By the end of the four-year study:

  • the median age of the subjects had been 62 years (between 35 and 75 years)
  • the LA/ALA mix had been taken for a median 24 months (between three and 48 months)

At the end of the four-year prospective study the subjects’ arterial wall elasticity was re-assessed by (i) photoplethysmography and (ii) pulse wave velocity (see Editorial below). Artery wall elasticity had:

  • improved in 25 of the 34 (73% of the) subjects and
  • become that more usually found in younger people (according to US average age artery wall elasticity records)

The average restoration of elasticity had been the equivalent of reversing an average 8.8 years of artery wall ageing.
Just for the record, and pour encourager les autres , the artery walls of the ‘most successful’ subject looked as if they (the artery walls) had reversed the equivalent of ~40 years artery wall ageing.

The short-term prospective study

Sixteen subjects were recruited across eight months – nine females and seven males. The elasticity of their artery walls was assessed. By the end of the eight-month study:

  • the median age of the subjects had been 62 years (between 46 and 84 years)
  • the LA/ALA mix had been taken for a median two and a half months (between one and eight months)

At the end of the eight-month prospective study the subjects’ artery wall elasticity was assessed by photoplethysmography (see Editorial below). Artery wall elasticity had:

  • been restored in seven of the sixteen (43% of the) subjects
  • become that more usually found in younger people (according to US average age artery wall elasticity records)

The average restoration of elasticity had been the equivalent of reversing an average 7.2 years of arterial ageing.

Photoplethysmography

Photoplethysmography is the optically obtained volumetric measurement of an organ. These are often obtained by using a pulse oximeter, which illuminates the skin and measures changes in light absorption. A conventional pulse oximeter monitors the perfusion of blood to the dermis (a layer of the skin between the epidermis and the subcutaneous tissues of the skin.
Because blood perfusion to the skin can be modulated by multiple other physiological systems, photoplethysmography can also be used to monitor breathing and other circulatory conditions.

Pulse Wave Velocity

Pulse Wave Velocity is described at length in edition 52 or the Green Health Watch Magazine.
